• This book is absolutely vital to cancer patients or anyone who has a loved one with cancer, especially those who have just received the news, "you have cancer". In fact, it should be required reading for cancer patients and part of their treatment path.
  
  Dr. Stegall is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about cancer and treating it using integrative oncology which is the best of both conventional methods mixed with alternative treatments.
  
  My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in the Summer of 2016, which sent our marriage, family, and lives into a crazy tailspin for over two years. • As a book blogger I read a lot of books. Good and sometimes bad ones! When I read the first chapters of ‘A Love Letter Life’ I immediately knew this book was not only good, but life changing. Jeremy and Audrey have a way of writing that engages and inspires there readers from the very first page. From the moment I started reading I was hooked, and didn’t want to stop reading. And I think what makes their story so good, is that it isn’t perfect. It has its flaws and therefor feels real.
  
  I’m not a religious person, but I have always felt intrigued by faith and religion. Reading this book doesn’t only make me want to work harder to have a more intentional marriage with my husband, but also makes me want to learn more about faith and religion. I feel inspired to do more with my life and work harder in my marriage.
  
  ‘A Love Letter Life’ has already changed me, and I would recommend this book to everyone out there.

• I have been happily married for nearly thirty years and still found this book incredibly insightful, with good reminders to keep the course.
• I read this book because I am fascinated by people who are different than me. From a quick look, the Roloffs could not be more different than me and my husband. Our values are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. As someone who has what she would consider a fairly successful marriage, I was also curious to see what these two had to say about relationships.
  
  I think the core principles of this book are things that anyone could agree on, regardless of their faith and beliefs. 1) Communication is key. 2) Marriage is hard work. 3) You should get to know someone before you actually marry them. 4) Complacency is very dangerous to a marriage. Hearing their love story and the struggles they went through as a long distance couple reminded me of the first year my husband and I were together. We spent our entire first year apart with me being in NY and him being in SC. We saw each other in person every 2-3 months but most of the time was spent in totally different states. This forced us to learn how to communicate with each other right off the bat, and I think our marriage is stronger because of it.
  
  Where I think the Roloffs lose a lot of people is the constant talk of Christianity. I understand and admire that God is a big part of their life and their marriage, but I honestly believe if they toned it down just a bit that their overall message would be heard so much louder and clearer. The overall message of this book is a great one that many people could learn from, but I think the Roloffs are isolating themselves to a specific fan base by constantly talking about God. It is entirely possible to live a “love letter life” without Jesus being a part of your life. I don’t think one way is better than the other, and I don’t think the Roloffs do either honestly. They seem like good, honest, caring people. Unfortunately there are a few times the book comes off as a bit preachy.
  
  Regardless, this was an easy read with an excellent overall message. There would be less divorce in this world if people actually abided by some of these principles instead of rushing into marriage. My curiosity about how other people live their lives would probably prompt me to read another book by them as it was much better written than I anticipated. However, if you are not a religious person or if you are easily offended by people who talk about religion a lot, this is not the book for you.
• This is a beautiful and innocent story of first love. It's a picture of love, the way that God intended. I'm encouraged that there are young people who still want to get to know each other and lay a foundation of friendship before letting romance come into the picture. It's beautiful how they became friends first, then he patiently pursued her until they were both ready to be in a relationship.
• This book is such a great read. Whether you're single, dating, engaged, or married, this book is for YOU. It is so engaging! It challenged me and although I'm single, it gave me things to think about and helped me with how I view and approach my future love story. Through the beauty of writing love letters, I was encouraged to live my own love letter life. I was also reminded of the importance of finding and waiting for a spouse who loves God more than they'll ever love me. And that kind of love is worth waiting for and pursuing with purpose. I was greatly encouraged and I know you will be too! Such a wonderfully written love story that encourages others in every season of life. It's a great read for both men and women alike.

• I can not recommend this book enough! I was initially hesitant on ordering it but I am so glad I did. It is proof that true love stories still exist and its message needs to spread. Love is not a fleeting feeling but instead a daily choice to selflessly pursue someone. I also love their emphasis the importance of founding relationships on friendship first!

• Have you taken a personality-type test in a book or article with what seems like 400 questions? Endless and apparently unnecessary. The author's system has three questions Outgoing or reserved? Do I prefer a plan or am I more easygoing? Do I love to try new things or do I prefer tried and true? Our answers guide us to a what she calls a PlaceType and helps us understand how our environment can make us happier and healthier. And, as the book is written by an environmental psychologist, it's based on scientific research. My personality group (Intellectual) and type (Investigator) really appreciates this approach! There's also a lot of fascinating information about our senses in the environment such as adding the scent of a large, open space such as the ocean makes an indoor space seem larger. Or that heterosexuals who see someone of the opposite gender against a red background find that person more attractive and desirable than when they see the same person against a different colored background.
  
  This is a unique and interesting take on creating our home environment, one that goes beyond shallow personality cliches in that it's based on decades of research and study. I recommend it highly.

  This is a book where the reader should not simply pass over the Foreword. Eric Higgs provides a profoundly poetic vision yet very practical opening discussion that sets the scene for all that follows. The many authors demonstrate a wisdom and competence that do justice to Higgs' vision. In short, it is a remarkable and very valuable book.
  
  The opening chapters provide a concise and incisive account of the region and of the authors' perspective on ecological restoration. Then part two has a series of nine chapters, each dealing with one of the major ecosystems of the region and providing detailed case studies of restoration projects within each. In part three, six chapters each deal with special environmental issues that are shared across ecosystem boundaries, including urbanization, waterways, large-scale landscapes and watersheds, wildlife, invasive vegetation and the traditional knowledge of indigenous people.
  
  The result is one of the most practical texts of which I am aware. It deals in depth with restoration in a diversity of temperate climate ecosystems. The simple fact that the whole book is based upon a single relatively large geographical region means that the chapters are related to each other to an extent which rarely occurs in a volume of papers written by various authors. They bring to life the interaction of any one system with others and the integrative character of the over-arching special issues.

• Read this book - Cover. To. Cover. - in 3 hours. Which sounds shocking, but it is barely thicker than a hardpressed grilled cheese.
  
  Some of the most self-aggrandizing, delusional drivel I have ever read.
  
  Will be selling my copy. Too embarrassing to keep this on my bookshelf.
• I wanted to like this book as I used to be a big Anthony fan before he delved into the racist cesspool.
  
  However, the book is highly unprofessional and littered with lazy typos starting from the opening paragraph “I was born in the City of Manhattan” - Manhattan is a borough.
  
  The content of this book is essentially rehashings of Old OA bits and it comes off as lazy and tired.
• There's certainly a book's worth of material regarding Ant's life and the OnA show, but this ain't it. It's poorly written and badly edited, but the main problem is that it's way too short. The whole transition to the dual show between XM and FM radio is handled in about two paragraphs, but it took a couple months for the negotiations that resulted in the "walkover", I know, I'm actually listening to the spring 2016 archived shows right now. You could write chapters on how all that played out. You could write 25 pages on the various Stalker Patti episodes, and where is Patrice Oneal in this book? Aside from Jimmy, Patrice was the most influential third mike on the show, and even had a broadcast of his own for awhile, the "Black Phllip" show. Where's Big A? Bobo? The deadly attacks on other radio personalities pursued by the Pests? And for a book that's suppose to tell all, there's precious little of "walking on Gregshells" in here. Try again.

• As a long time fan, I eagerly anticipated Anthony’s autobiography. He is a fantastic story teller and has lived an incredible life. This book is funny and amazing. It is an easy read and I highly recommend it.
• I think Anthony is one of the funniest guys on the planet and I had high hopes for this book. It started out that way describing his childhood and giving some humorous insight into how he turned out like he did. Unfortunately things went downhill from there. If you've been a fan and have been following this saga you will find that 90% of the rest of the content is just retreads of stories you've heard many times before. There are a couple of highlights such as the appearances on the late night shows and how that went, but I was really hoping for more detail into never-before-heard incidents or even just MORE info on what did happen. Everything is just glossed over in this brief book. The organization of stories also seems disjointed with different "controversies" thrown in at different times.
  
  Ultimately I don't know if this come together due to having (two?) co-writers or whether Anthony's humor just does not translate to the written word. Minor note, the book is a bit out of date, as it was finished before Artie was let go from the podcast. Would have been interesting to read about that.
  
  Still rooting for Anthony but the book didn't hit the mark.

Family obligations, personal choices, ambition, shortsightedness and pure greed bear much more influence on the outcome of the scientific process than most scientists will ever admit. I should know, I am a NeuroBiologist myself...

I found NEXT to be quite interesting, and eagerly followed some of the story-lines in the early morning hours. Yet, at the same time, there was no backbone to the story other than the cautionary message. This made the novel, at first to give the feeling of never-actually-taking-off, only to finally turn into an informative episodic collection of characters I hardly cared for.

This is, at most, a 3½ stars novel. I rounded it up (rather than down) because of the great books Crichton has given us in the past. My advise to Michael Crichton would be "no writer is big enough to totally ignore his editors"."

• I suspect that many readers don't get that he's writing this as satire and comedy, expecting his more serious dry style of previous books. The audio version is great because the actor adds so much to it with his characterizations of the various people and their reactions. The tone is tongue in cheek and parts are hilarious. There are a few missteps, such as the dead end plot line of the glowing animals used for advertising. There were even a few grammatical errors that made it past the editor, and some of the plots were farfetched (trying to arrest someone to grab their tissues because you own the rights to it)
  But it brings up interesting topics and tosses in some education. The story had me eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
• This was my sixth Crichton novel, after (in order) Micro, Congo, Prey, Jurassic Park, and Jurassic World. Next ranks in the top three, along with Micro (2nd) and Prey (an easy 1st).
  
  Bear in mind, this book is seriously unlike the others. If you are looking for a straight forward plot, you will not like this book. Crichton takes several story lines, some important and some not, and weaves them all together (expertly, I might add), detailing genetic progresses, problems, and possibilities, all while building to an expertly constructed finale. As such, the story takes time, and doesn't really take off until at least 1/3rd into the book, although I'd argue it's really more like 60% in that it catches fire.
  
  If you can get through about half (which is not bad, just exhausting - names are plentiful and difficult to remember) you're set, because the rest of the book is dynamite, and the ending is so well done I found myself really in disbelief.
  
  I might re-read it, just now that the story has been made clearer and so I can focus on the genetic aspect, but this is one of those books that is best the first time around, when you don't know how it will come together.
  
  This is not even to get into how well this is researched. The genetic knowledge Crichton supplies is incredible.
  
  Without a doubt, a must read.
• A gripping SEMI-SciFy novel that tweaks the reader at many levels and keeps the action—largely cerebral rather than bloody—going. I like Crichton. The short chapter style is a little choppy, and the pseudo-news clips a little tiresome (but perhaps necessary to clarify the science for lay readers). The author interview and essay at the end of the edition are not entertaining, but thought provoking and important, especially the essay (reprinted from his 2006 NY TIMES op-ed piece). I hope the cautions he recommends have been implemented by the time of this 2019 review.

• In this novel MC continues to warn us about the risks of new technology, that he began exploring with Andromeda Strain and reached a peak with Jurassic Park (the book not the movie). In "Next" MC continues the explicit "academic paper" style he started with "State of Fear". "Next" contains a detailed bibliography, including website addresses, and an aftermath with his opinion about the issues raised by genetic engineering. The most valuable part of the book are the legal, scientific, ethical, moral and religious issues raised throughout the novel. Probably a non-fiction book would have been a better instrument to deliver his message, or at least, he should have tried harder to make this book a real novel. This is what it shares with "State of Fear". As a novel, this is one of MCs weakest, we really miss the good old style of Andromeda Strain, Congo, Sphere, and Jurassic Park. As other readers noted, too many caracters, too much going back and forth, and some of the plot is too exagerated (specially regarding the monkey boy and the talking parrot that by coincidence end up together). After all, I recommend reading the book, genetic engineering is a technology that in the long-term will affect our lifes and that of our grandchildren. MC shows with clarity all the nonsense that is going on right now, as he did in "State of Fear" regarding global warning, conveniently exaggerated by the media. I fully agree with his point of view regarding the absurdity of pattenting genes, the dangerous relationships between universities and private firms, and the overstataments being made about short-term results.

• I'm a C++ developer and should have read this book a long time ago. It was very helpful in improving my C++ knowledge. I knew I didn't know everything about C++ and needed to learn more and this book and a couple of others (mentioned below) got me on my way to learning more. Of course I still don't know everything about C++, and probably never will, but I've definitely increased my C++ knowledge with this book and the others that I've recently read.
  
  First, I recommend starting with some FREE books you can find on the Internet - called "Thinking in C++" by Bruce Eckel. There are 2 volumes and I recommend both. You can buy the print versions but I used the electronic versions.
  
  I then read this book - Effective C++. Of course there is some repetition, but I like it as it helps 'drive stuff into my head'.
  
  The next book I'll read is Effective STL 50 Specific Ways to Improve Your Use of the Standard Template Library.
  
  I bought Effective C++ Third Edition in May 2013 from as the seller, and received the thirteenth printing (March 2013)
  
  While some of this stuff seems dated in 2013, I think 98% of it is still quite relevant, though I do wish they would keep the books a bit more updated (no more than 4 or 5 years old).
  
  I do plan on looking into a book on C++11 in the near future.
  
  Bottom line for this book is that I found it well worth the price. It's much easier and cheaper to learn the stuff in this book by reading it instead of having to 'learn it the hard way'.

  Let's divide up the task of becoming a C++ software engineer specialising in programming challenging systems ...
  
  (1) learning the essentials of programming;
  (2) learning the essentials of low level programming with its bit fiddling logical operators and implementation issues;
  (3) learning C++ syntax;
  (4) learning C++ development tools;
  (5) picking up knowledge of the situational logic of software engineering;
  (6) picking up knowledge of object oriented and procedural and other approaches to programming solutions to given problems and picking up the common sense to know the best approach to a given problem;
  (7) learning C++ libraries;
  (8) learning STL the standard template library;
  (9) picking up knowledge so that one can develop an appropriate C++ style to the task at hand, whatever the task at hand may be ... knowing that educational miniprojects and real medium sized to large systems have different needs in this respect.
  
  In this matter I am trying to distinguish knowledge and skills. I maintain that this book essentially deals with topics (2) (5) (6) (7) and (9) as outlined above, with application to the perculiarities of C++. In other words, this is an advanced work and should not be the first C++ book a first year university student should buy! First things first you need to buy a language primer ...
  
  Nevertheless once one has mastered the basics of C++ this is an excellent work to start picking up rules of C++ style. Helpfully the author includes a number of items which describe typical C++ blunders that result from inadequate mastery of the basics of C++. Therefore after learning the basics of C++ most students would benefit by reading this book cover to cover! The explanations are clear and terse and if contemplated will enable many a conceptual misunderstanding of typical C++ semantics in C++ typical implementations to be clarified.
  
  From earlier editions some of the advice has changed. There is a helpful table pp277-9 that describes a mapping of relevant items between the 2nd and 3rd editions! That the author has consolidated and clarified his advice on good C++ style is a good thing given how often he is cited in both industry and academia. Some advice has been updated to deal with the C++ 11 standard adopted two years ago; some has been updated to deal with the latest in C++ development technologies and libraries ...
  
  Well worth reading even for the experienced programmer. Well worth buying even if you have an earlier edition. I really must find time now to read this properly cover to cover ... as I've read two of his earlier works!
• I spoke to Scott Meyers about this series at a time when he was in doubt about it. He has been criticized as one who has not held a production programming job. He openly admits to this and summarises relevant credentials in his discussion on this subject. I praised the work and thanked him for his contribution for this reason In production programming we become known for specific routines, and despite our higher proficiency in other areas, we are hired again and again to solve the same or similar problems. We have lists, sometimes good agenda and at other times mental intentions that are rarely addressed. He takes the time to look for issues that "bite back" and to write those small, sample programs to which we never get around and those that might change our way of doing things if we were only to know the result. Enrolment in his courses demonstrates that he has a knack for teaching and his clear and insightful explanations and examples highlight that pedagogical virtue in his texts.

• La verdad es una de mis series en inglés favoritas y fue un gusto leerla en español. Espero con ansias los otro tomos
• Ésta es una hermosa historia que te atrapa desde el comienzo, te hace sentir mucho y te demuestra que el amor no tiene fecha de caducidad.

"I'd never read a Doctor Strange comic before. Shortly after the film I was asking around about the comics. I'd heard that there'd been some great comics and some not-so-great, which isn't that unique I guess. This volume was recommend to me as one of the more entertaining, classic style adventures. I had a blast reading this one. It's full of the kind of weirdness the film didn't want to get into with some beautifully drawn action panels. The humor is pretty good and the characterization felt natural. Most of the time I was reading it I was wishing Robert Downey Jr. had played Doctor Strange instead of Tony Stark. Strange is much snarkier and wittier than Stark feels in the comics. No matter, this is still a fun read that doesn't require a lot of knowledge to understand."

• The Way of the Weird collects issues 1-5 of the current run of Doctor Strange.
  
  First off, I love the art. Since they couldn't get Steve Ditko from the late 1960's to illustrate, Chris Bachalo is the next best thing. I loved his run on Shade the Changing Man during the 1990's and he's a perfect fit for Doctor Strange's dimension-spanning adventures.
  
  The story is pretty good as well. Magic is going haywire and someone is killing off the wizards across the multiverse one by one. The menace of the Emperikul has me jonesing for the next book. I love the Bar Without Doors and the addition of Zelma to the supporting cast. I also like what secret things Wong has been doing in the background.
  
  However, I couldn't justifying rating this higher. Structurally, the plot seems really similar to Aaron's plot in Thor God of Thunder, Vol. 1 The God Butcher. Also, I didn't feel like a whole lot actually happened, mostly setup for future volumes. Some kind of payoff would have been nice. It was good and I'll read the next volume but I'm not looking forward to it as much as the next Vision trade.
• This is the first Doctor Strange book that I've ever read. I had heard a lot of good things about the good doctor and his current series, and recently I went and saw his movie and was impressed with what I had seen. So I decided to give this book a try. And I was not disappointed in the slightest. The story was pretty straightforward. Doctor Strange at first was dealing with other people's odd mystical problems (a typical day for him). When suddenly he started encountering various creatures and situations that were weird even for him, and he didn't understand why. It was a very intriguing story, and as it played out, I was left wondering "What is Doctor Strange going to do now?". In other words, it left me wanting more. The art was very vivid, and it depicted Doctor Strange, his spells, and the mystical creatures and places he encountered very well. Overall, I would recommend this book to both new (like me) and old Strange fans.
• This is easily my favorite book of all the new titles Marvel has launched lately.
  
  Really, when I think about it, its one of my favorite (current) comics period.
  
  I have always been intrigued by Doctor Strange. I have been a disciple of his since I was a wee little one. I've followed most of his adventures and am fairly well versed with his position and history in the Marvel universe.
  
  That said, I can say with full confidence that this is easily the best Doctor Strange material that has been printed...ever.
  
  Really.
  
  And the best part is, you don't need to know anything about the dude before diving into this series. It's completely newb-friendly. Jason Aaron does a fantastic job filling readers in on all the information that they need. He weaves the story in a masterful way, engaging us as readers without making us feel like we are slogging through a giant info dump. everything he says has a reason, time, and place.
  
  It really is masterful comic book storytelling.
  
  And those double page spreads? Holy crap...Chris Bachalo nails it! I loved his work in Wolverine & the X-Men (also with Jason Aaron) and the greatness continues here in Doctor Strange. Bachalo has a way of filling a page or panel that makes me want to linger on it way longer than I normally ever would with any other artist. He has so many little secrets and tidbits in his art that can easily be missed at a cursory glance. Given the time, readers will constantly find new little treasures that they may have missed the first read through.
  
  Talk about a treat.
  
  Anyways, Jason Aaron and Chris Bachalo absolutely nail it! This is a terrific read that should not be missed! Its dream team material and really shows off how great and fun comic book reading can be!

I had a blast reading this one. It's full of the kind of weirdness the film didn't want to get into with some beautifully drawn action panels. The humor is pretty good and the characterization felt natural. Most of the time I was reading it I was wishing Robert Downey Jr. had played Doctor Strange instead of Tony Stark. Strange is much snarkier and wittier than Stark feels in the comics. No matter, this is still a fun read that doesn't require a lot of knowledge to understand.
• What is going on?! Doctor Strange is re-imagined by Aaron and Bachalo to create a very charismatic and very weird Doctor Strange. The artwork is some of the best to be seen and it's what makes this probably the best run of Doctor Strange. Bachalo makes the first 11 issues of this series extraordinary by breaking traditional comic book panels that make the pages feel alive with magic and demons. DO NOT READ THIS BOOK UNDER HALLUCINOGENICS. You will enjoy it too much and never be able to experience visual ecstasy again. Aaron's writing also creates the Doctor Strange we can really appreciate. He knows he's good, but he doesn't take himself as seriously as in the past. He's quirky and he's weird and he's actually very fun to read.
  
  The plot concerns Doctor Strange and a phenomena where creatures have invaded our dimension from other dimensions. Doctor Strange, in his quest to figure out what is happening realizes there is a greater threat happening, with magic disappearing and destroying worlds. Eventually, Doctor Strange and the other mages of the world face the treat head-on, having to rely on little to no magic at all. A run of 10 issues that ties is perfectly one after another that leaves you both chuckling and in suspense.
