- Excellent product.
- Strange but true
- Perfect reading for the commute to work and back. Small chapters with fun facts, many of which entice you to do further reading.
- Bought it as a gift for my Father for his B-Day. I think he liked it as he finished it in two days!
- ...but not much good for anything else. Most of the anecdotes contained within are neither "strange" nor "extraordinary". In fact, the "strangest" thing about this book is the amount of hunting and fishing tales it relates. A better title for this collection might be "British Military's Strangest Campaigns and Characters" for nearly the entire book is focused on the Brits during the World Wars. There are a few typos here and there and most of the stories are hardly amusing, but I don't feel that I completely wasted my time with this.
The book also has an air of British/WASP superiority to it, which seems out of place considering the present low state of the UK. An example of this, on page 301 whilst describing the Football War in Honduras, the author bemoans racism, the Holocaust, and Nazism in one paragraph and goes on to state that Honduras and El Salvador continue to suffer from "poverty and Catholicism" in the next.
The real value of "Military's Strangest" is purely trivial and definitely not worth the list price. Get a used copy for basically the S&P.
